The historic 2015 UN Climate Change Conference in Paris (COP21) saw Planetary Visions helping the European Space Agency explain how their Earth observation satellites are used to keep a health-check on the planet's climate. Two of our projects with ESA were showcased: one exploring thirty years of data for ESA's Climate Office, the other focusing on the major achievements of CryoSat, ESA's ice mission.

Designed primarily for scientific conferences, our climate data visualisation tool was shown to the public for the first time as part of the Solutions COP21 exhibition at the Grand Palais on the Avenue des Champs-Elysees. This interactive software allows the exploration on a virtual globe of climate variables such as greenhouse gases, ocean temperature and soil moisture, based on satellite observations spanning thirty years.

Our latest animation for ESA's CryoSat programme provides a guided tour from pole to pole of the mission's major achievements, including measuring changes to the thickness of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, an improved map of global ocean depths, and monthly maps of sea ice thickness in the Arctic Ocean. The animation was used to support scientific briefings to the press and made available to the world's broadcast media.
