The observation deck of the world's tallest building provides an appropriate
venue for an educational exhibition examining how we depend on the environment
in which we live, and how the way we live affects the environment. The
overview of the local area visible through the windows is extended with the aid
of earth-observing satellite imagery to give a view of our world from an
orbiting spacecraft. Three separate videodisc installations offer an
introduction to the environments of Air, Land and Water, followed by a choice of
stories with an effective mix of satellite image animation and real world video
footage. Most stories end with the opportunity to examine the satellite data
itself in more detail.
EcoDek opened at the CN Tower, Toronto, in December 1995, endorsed by Environment Canada and the Canadian Space Agency. Produced by The MultiMedia Corporation, with satellite data visualisations created by Planetary Visions. Best Multimedia Installation in the International Digital Media Awards at Multimedia 1995, Toronto.
